Creating Your Baby Registry: 10 Must-Have Items

Creating your baby registry can be incredibly stressful. Thankfully, the Babies ‘R’ Us Baby Registry Checklist is an absolute lifesaver! It tells you exactly what (and how many) you will need of everything under the sun. Even though I had this great checklist as my guide, I still spent hours, days, weeks, trying to perfect my registry. I found myself combing through countless ratings and reviews for each and every product in order to find the best options for our family. Unfortunately, I cannot say or do anything to spare you from the obsession that that will become the baby registry. But I can share with you the things I absolutely could not live without and some of the overrated products I definitely did not use as a new mom, in hopes of making your life a bit easier.

The 10 Products You Didn’t Know You Needed

The Blooming Bath

This is AMAZING! By far the easiest and most comfortable way to bathe your newborn. You simply squeeze the water out when you’re done and hang it up to dry. And it barely takes up any space in the home, unlike the traditional plastic tubs. My little one used this gem until she was about 4 months old and she loved it! She never fussed at bath time and I give this thing full credit.

Sound Machine

You need this badly! I had no idea I needed one until a friend told me she swore by it (and her kids are great sleepers). Needless to say, I rushed out to buy one. Sure enough, my little one has slept through the night since 3 months old. Below is the one we use… and I put it on the Rain setting – sounds like white noise. She’s out like a light every night!

Graco Pack ‘N Play with Cuddle Cove Rocker

I didn’t think I needed a Pack ‘N Play until my little one became overwhelmingly mobile and needed to be temporarily placed in baby jail… But boy was I wrong! This incredible 4-in-one playard is an absolute necessity: Complete with Changing Table, Cuddle Cove Rocking Chair, Infant Insert, and Playard. The Cuddle Cove Rocking Chair is the best thing since sliced bread. Not only is it super soft and has 2 vibration settings, it also makes moving baby around the house easy and convenient. My little one slept in the Rocking Chair until she was 4 weeks old!

Baby Carrier

If your baby is a monster like mine, then you will definitely need a baby carrier. I thought I would be one of those cool moms who carries their baby in a wrap all the time, but that only lasted about a day. I kept thinking my baby would fall out of the wrap, and that there was no way it was comfortable for the baby nor myself. It was also definitely a two person job to get us all set up. So, my personal opinion is to go the carrier route – but either way you will need something! Here are the best two carriers (taking price point into account) that I recommend:

A Weightless Stroller

I made the mistake of only getting a jogging stroller. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my jogging stroller and we use it all the time, but it is certainly not meant for every day use. It does not matter what kind of jogging stroller you get, they will ALL be heavy! **TIP: Get strollers that click with your car seat (usually these are sold in sets)**  We use the Graco Click Connect Car Seat, which clicks with our jogging stroller and our simple every day stroller.

Baby Mirror

One of the most nerve racking things you’ll experience as a new mom, is driving baby around and not being able to see if she is okay after each and every mile marker. So do yourself a favor and get a baby mirror. This one is the bees knees because it pivots for that perfect baby view.

aden + anais Classic Muslin Swaddle Blankets

To be honest, I originally thought these blankets were trendy and overpriced. However, I was proven so so wrong. These miracle blankets make swaddling easy peasy, and since they are breathable they also help prevent overheating. My little lady is now obsessed with these blankets (which is good, because they are easily interchangeable if one gets dirty)!

Bustier Pumping Bra

Pumping is super SUPER time consuming, but this sweet bra makes it all better. Why stress over spilt breast milk when there are so many other things to do… Multitasking has never been more awesome!

Boon Grass Bottle Drying Rack

Since washing baby bottles will slowly become your new favorite pastime, they will need their own special place in your home. A nice plastic grassy area to showcase their cleanliness. This drying rack props up bottles to allow for quick drying, prevents mold, and is safe to use (BPA Free, Phthalate Free, and PVC Free).

Organic Baby Wash

Ever wonder what makes baby shampoo “tear-free”? Typically “no cry” washes contain numbing agents to prevent little eyes from the sting of harsh ingredients. It is incredibly important to bathe your baby with only the most pure and natural ingredients. Green Soap Inc. has some amazing certified organic baby products for your little one!

The Things I Did Not Need!

  • Diaper Genie – I could not get the hang of using this thing. I just set up a normal step trash can in the garage. Much easier and no refill cartridges needed.
  • Bottle Sanitizer – I tried to use this once…which is actually all you need it for! Not worth the price tag nor the hassle. Just give your bottles a good scrub down.
  • Wipes Warmer – I did not want to pamper my baby’s booty with a wipe warmer, because if we are out and about, God forbid I don’t have warm wipes on hand. This logic also applies to the-
  • Bottle Warmer – Again, not needed. My little one actually ended up preferring cold milk because it felt good on her gums.

I hope these suggestions are helpful! I’d love to hear which products you could absolutely not live without when your little bundle of joy arrived.
